Mutt Mesh Animal Rescue
Barn Cat Adoption Program

How it Works
  • Decide on what cats you want (minimum of 2 Barn Cats makes the transition easier), some Barn Cats are adoptable pairs-brothers & sisters.
  • Fill out an Adoption Application, submit request below for Application.
  • Have a Barn Inspection.
  • Agree to Guidelines (2 week Acclimation Process).

Two Week Acclimation Process
  • We bring out 2 Cat Condos, 2 Barn Cats, and set up in your barn.
  • You supply bedding, litter, litter box, food & water.
  • Barn Cats are kept in Condos for 2 weeks, this helps the Barn Cats bond with the new caretaker and become familiar with their new surroundings.
  • After 2 week confinement period, Barn Cats will need a Tack Room to be released into or a safe place for them to spend the night away from predators.

 Barn Cats in our Program
  •  All Barn Cats have been Spayed/Neutered.
  • All Barn Cats are Up To Date on Vaccines & Rabies shots.
  • All Barn Cats have been tested for FIV (Feline Immune Deficiency Virus) & Feline Leukemia.
  • All Barn Cats are current of Flea Protection.

 Barn Cat Socialization
  • We require you take at least 2 Barn Cats, or more if desired.
  •  Barn Cats are happiest in a Colony with the company of other cats.
  • We will let you know if some of the Barn Cats can be handled.
  • Some Barn Cats will over time accept human attention.

What your new Barn Cats will need
  • Barn Cats need a safe, permanent outdoor home with areas of weather-proof shelter and clean Food & Water.
  • Even though they will keep your property free of mice and snakes they still require clean Food & Water.
  • Most Barn Cats are timid and fearful of people.
  • Call a Veterinarian if your Barn Cat becomes sick or injured.

What we Provide
  • Our Barn Cats will be delivered to their new home by a volunteer.
  • We provide a large Cat Condo for the first 2 weeks in their new location.
  • The Cat Condo allows the Barn Cats to acclimate to their new surroundings without fear of running away.

What we ask of you
  • When adopting two or more of our Barn Cats, we ask that you agree to provide the following:
  • A commitment to provide your new Barn Cats a permanent-forever home.
  • A secure place to keep them for the first 2 weeks.
  • Safe-warm shelter in the barn, free of predators and bad weather.
  •  Daily clean Food & Water
  • Long term Veterinary care if necessary.

Safe Relocation Tips
  • Make sure the confinement area is located near a place where the cats can hide when released from the Cat Condo.
  • Make sure the cats have a small box to hide in, one easy to get in and out of.
  • If the cat runs away try setting food and water out and sprinkle some of their used litter around the barn.  Sometimes they hide for a few days after release.
  • Always leave them plenty of food and water so they don’t have to leave in search of food and water.
  • Make contact with them daily.  Talk to them in a calm voice, play music for them.  Usually those that actually make the effort to communicate with the Barn Cats will have better success in the relocation process.
  • During COLD weather the confinement crates or cat house may need to be covered with extra blankets if possible.
  •  New Barn Cats can be introduced into an already existing Cat Colony in your barn.  Confine the new cats in a safe crate or Condo in the area where the existing Colony eats and sleeps
