Ringo/Teddy UPDATE!!!!

Doctors notes below!

Ringo looks amazing and doesn't even seem to be the same dog today. He is coming along beautifully! Still battling the skin infection, still have heat and inflammation. Will continue with antibiotics and have added prednisone in a decreasing dosage. Ears are looking better but not completely healed yet. Blood work was done looks good with one exception, he is POS for heartworms, no microfilaria but does have adults. Started on doxycycline and Heartguard and Dr P would like to begin immiticide treatment as soon as he is healthier!
Sometime within the next few weeks we will bring him in for xrays on the hind end (must be sedated so he will go in as out patient for the day) and determine a game plan for how we will move forward with the hips and legs. It obvious he's in pain but we have to take everything one step at a time. He has pain meds and anti inflammatory meds to make him comfortable.

He was also much more at ease in the vets office. More comfortable with Sean and Cindy and the whole ordeal in general. I'm sure it helped having his mommy Brenda there to ease his mind and hold him through all the procedures, plus it was good for me having her there so she can be part of his healing process right along with us. She got many questions answered and will be with us every step of the way.
All in all it was a great day and we have begun to formulate our plan for healing. Thank you Dr Susan Pickle and staff for being there for us and helping us all, we are thankful!

Please continue to donate if possible, we have many more office visits coming as well as heartworm treatment on a very large dog. All donations are greatly appreciated and desperately needed. Please designate for Ringo/Teddy!!!
Thank you,
Linda Lopez

Do y'all remember RINGO?
He was missing for 6 months, we found him @ GCARC about to be euthanized. We were called to come save him and we did. We then found his owners. It was a loving reunion, or so we thought!!!!
Well this beautiful soul was DUMPED at Galveston County Animal Resource Center by his owner last week. As soon as he went through the front door everyone there knew who he was. Mine and Deanna's phones started blowing up with phone calls and text messages. We went right to the shelter and picked him up and headed directly to Dr. Susan Pickle. After assessment it was determined he was suffering. He smelled horrific, covered in scabs and sores, his coat was filthy and oily; his ears were painful to the touch. Terrified of people. He hid under the bench and cried every time we tried to touch him, he was obviously in pain.
It was determined he has a severe ear infection in both ears, skin infection all over his body, bruising throughout his back side, and hair loss. He is on antibiotics and has ear meds and special medicated shampoo. He is also in the loving hands of his foster mommy Shawna.
His poor body hurts so bad he had to be taken to the vet and sedated to be bathed, this will be a weekly occurrence until his poor body has healed.
His former mommy Brenda (who hasn't been a part of his life for the past 6 months) has been visiting him almost daily, loving on him and brushing him. He sure missed seeing her!!!
We are asking for donations for continued vetting for Teddy fka RINGO. We changed his name for his new start in life. He loves his new name. This poor soul has a long road to recovery!!
Donations can be made via PayPal muttmeshinfo@gmail.com, please note for RINGO/TEDDY.
For now, our main focus is getting this baby healed and happy and healthy. Please help if you can, no amount is too small.
Message from Brenda Hocker, Ringos old mommy!
Ringo is looking better even after a week of getting care from a loving hand. He deserves the very best and has been blessed with people that love him. He even got extra frisky after the bath he got. He is on the way to getting stronger physically and looking less timid emotionally. He's been through so much that caused him to not trust and yet he still knows a genuine heart when he sees it. I am so grateful that Mutt Mesh was immediately contacted when he was surrendered and that Shawna has such a big heart for this big guy. Makes my heart smile to see him happy again.

UPDATE!! 06/09/2015
RINGO went to the vet yesterday for his follow up visit.  He is doing much better--fur is growing back and he gained 10 lbs.
He is Heartworm Positive--we will begin treatment as soon as he is healthier.
He was microchipped.  He received his DHLPP and Rabies.
He is currently on antibiotics for his secondary skin infection from the yeast infection.
He is happier, healthier, and responding to his family with ears up and constant smiles.  He has a long road to complete recovery and who knows how long it may be before he forgets about all his neglect.
The important thing is he is back with his loving family and receiving the absolute best care possible!!!

Thank you,

Linda Lopez

Ok Everyone! This is long…but this is everything that happened.
Time for the full story. These are the actual facts. From the source.. so if you are going to share any version of this please share the actual story. Here we go...

Ringo was lost from his home on Jan 10th, 2015. He and his Labrador friend got out of a gate that was accidentally left open. The lab was found hours later, Ringo was not. (We do not need to debate at this time whether or not they were stolen intentionally) His family has looked for him tirelessly. The Facebook page was created to help with the search. They followed every lead sent their way.
Fast forward 6 months to June 2nd. I received a frantic call from a GCARC employee who has my cell number begging me to save a sick dog. He was an owner turn in on Saturday and is scheduled to be euthanized. She can’t stand to see him go.. she wants to save his life. She has a potential foster that will meet me at the vet. Calls are made to approve funding and a rescue pull and we agree to take him into our rescue, Mutt Mesh Animal Rescue. I go to the shelter with her on her day off and we pull a dog named Sarge. We go to the vet with the foster and a very nervous Sarge. He is very scared. He is very emaciated. He is very sick. But so very sweet. We get him all checked out. We have a plan. The foster backs out.. because he has a “smell”.. that would be the yeast infection in his skin. He also has a bacterial infection. He will be ok. He just needs a foster. I make some calls and drive home. Sarge sleeps in my backseat while I sit in my driveway calling and posting on Facebook to find a place for him to crash. We have 26 dogs at our house.. most from the past euth lists at GCARC. We have zero room.. no place for even one more dog. A wonderful foster immediately offers her home and her care. My mom, my son, and I drive this sweet boy to Galveston to meet his new friends. Everyone does well with the meeting. He is getting settled in and fed. He gets his meds. We hit the foster jackpot folks.. his foster mom is a nurse, who has rescued before, and has a gorgeous gsd… hooray! We go home happy that we have such a wonderful place for poor Sarge to recover while we find him a forever home. I post an update as soon as I get in bed that he is safe. I go to sleep….
I wake up to a string of emails. Brenda saw a post about a gsd needing a home that looks a little like Ringo. We talk for a while about his medical conditions and the many reasons why he may look completely different and we agree that she and Eric should go see him soon to confirm. I contact the foster and ask if they can come Thursday evening.. she of course says yes. I completely forget to tell her who the family is. She and I had already talked about the possibility of him being one of the few missing german shepherds posted online. I tell her I will check into it… she says she might as well. At some point during the day Shawna, our foster, checks the Ringo page and contacts Brenda. She sends pics and videos…. Eric is sure that it is him. They ask to go immediately to confirm. I get a phone call from a teary Brenda asking if it is ok for them to go check…. Definitely! Can you take him home? YES! If that is your boy take him home and spoil him rotten. wink emoticon I wait, not so patiently, while they drive out and meet him….. I get lots of texts from Shawna. All of the identifying marks match up….. perfectly… THIS IS RINGO!
The family takes him home and we start to piece together what has happened to get him to this point. This is what I have found out today….

Ringo has been living with a family in Texas City. Animal control was called out to their home on Friday because there have been many cats in the neighborhood coming up dead. Since they either let their two large male gsd’s roam free or chain them in the yard.. the neighbors believe their dogs are the cat killers. The ACO sees the sad state “Sarge” is in and tells them that they have 24 hrs to get him medical attention or turn him over to the shelter or they will face a hefty fine. They are written a few tickets for other infractions. The next day they drop “Sarge” off at GCARC. A shelter employee immediately falls in love with him. She gives him a bath to relieve his horrible flea infestation. She feeds him. She loves on him. She leaves me a voicemail about a sick dog that could use some help. I call back later that morning, she misses the call, and her phone doesn’t give her my message. On Tuesday, her day off, she finds out that he is set to be euthanized and calls me again to ask for help. We step in and pull him. And that is how Ringo got out of the shelter and made his way home!

So now we know that Ringo is safe. He is home with his family. It is completely illegal for the shelter to release the info on the family who turned him over. They will not face charges for theft as it is believed that they simply found what they thought was a stray and did not make enough effort to find his family. Because they complied with the ACO’s orders to surrender the dog they will not be charged for his neglect. Ringo has a long road to recovery, and Mutt Mesh will be helping with his vetting and keeping up with his progress. We are so happy that his family saw our posts and finally has their boy home!!!

And now for a few tips on what to do if your dog is lost! First off… have them chipped! It is now the law in Galveston County that all pets MUST be microchipped. GCARC will do it at the shelter for $20. Call them for info: 409-948-2485 If your pet goes missing please file a lost pet report with all local shelters asap. And go up there every 2-3 days if you can. Most shelters are overpopulated and staff cant always keep up with all of the animals going in and out … and you know your pet better.. so please go check often! Remember most shelters have a 3 day max stray hold.. so checking every few days is the key to making sure that your pet is not put down because you didn’t know they were there. ( In this case the shelter staff new about Ringo, but did not think this dog could be him because he was an owner turn in and the owners did not tell them how short of a time they had this dog) A facebook page to share info is an amazing idea! Having a lost pets page make a poster and list your pet is also a great idea.. You would not believe how many pets are reunited with their families because of social media! Next… keep checking.. keep filing those lost pet reports.. the shelters do not keep them more than 30 days… keep checking.. follow up personally on every lead… your pet could look totally different in a photo than in person… they could be sick or thin or dirty… you just never know. Please go check.
Ok that is all I’ve got. Sorry this was so long. But there was a lot of info.. and there has been A LOT of misinformation floating around facebook today… so I wanted to clear things up. This story is amazing! This boy came so close to losing his life.. and his family had almost given up hope of ever finding him. I am so happy that I got to be a part of bringing him home. And I hope we can help find more missing dogs now that we have learned from Ringo’s story. Please say a prayer for Ringo and his family as they fight to get him healthy and happy again. And if you would like to keep up with his progress you can follow our rescue @https://www.facebook.com/muttmeshanimalrescue or the Ringo page @https://www.facebook.com/pages/Looking-for-Ringo-the-German-Shepherd-in-Texas-City/339768942897968 If you are missing your pet feel free to post on our wall and we will do our best to help you search.

Thanks!
